A Sure Thing at the Lottery Kiosk

The Lottery Kiosk Blanchette & Associates
Located at the Airdrie Calgary Coop has a donation can at their Kiosk. Recently, Lise Blanchette had us pick up the proceeds and there was a whopping $68.85 in coins!

Thanks, Lise and Yves, for the simple act of putting a donation can at your place of business for the community to use.

Travel Masters

Travel Masters is celebrating their anniversary with a contest to WIN A TRIP FOR 2 to the Mayan Riviera. For every ballot received they will donate $1.00 to the Airdrie Food Bank.

Check it out on January 26:

(Bay 303-191)

Wow! 7 donors per tree!

Treecycle was a huge success, raising more than $3,300 in cash, and $1,200 in food donations.

Thanks so much to the guys at LOGical Creations for their hard work, creativity, and fun, as well as to the Airdrie Echo, and the generous donations of 7 local sponsors, McKee Homes, Condillo Foods, Vitreous Glass, Co-op, Re-Max Rockyview, Propak, and the Apple Wellness Centre,

Oh, and 10 trailers of mulch was created for Airdrie's Parks.

Great job guys!

Paros on Main
served up $1500

On a select Sunday evening in December, Paros on Main (912-4922) donated proceeds from dinner sales to the Airdrie Food Bank. They presented us with a cheque in the amount of $1,500. Thanks to Paros and its customers for supporting us!

Ecole Francophone Airdrie

The Humanitarian Council at Ecole Francophone Airdrie chose a goal of raising 450 food items to donate to the Airdrie Food Bank. The principal, Martin Camirand, agreed to allow them to dress him as a woman if they met their goal. On Monday, December 17, at assembly, the school presented the Food Bank with a donation of 497 items (as well as a lot of toys that were donated because Riley and Carson set a good example by donating all of their birthday gifts) and Mr. Camirand kept his word by letting the kids dress him up with make-up and scarves to accessorize his green skirt and blouse.

Thanks, Kids! (And thanks to Mr. Camirand, for being such a good sport for a good cause.)

Airdrie Chrysler Food "Drive"

Appropriately, the staff, customers, and owners of Airdrie Chrysler filled a pick-up truck with donations for the Airdrie Food Bank during the week of December 10. Thanks to all!

What would we do without Safeway ... and the lovely community of Airdrie?

We just wanted to say THANKS to Safeway. Each week, we receive bread donations from them, and, of course, Safeway has again provided us space and made care packages available for the Mayor's food drive.

The community generously donated $2,036.37 in cash and approximately $3,500 in food donations during the Mayor's food drive.

Thanks for Steadfastness

We just wanted to say THANKS to Co-op Grocery store for their steadfastness in helping the foodbank. They generously donate bakery items each week.

Party for a Cause

Propak presented the food bank with a generous cheque on Monday, December 17. The cheque was made up of contributions made by the staff during the annual Christmas party and the company generously matched the donations! Thanks for your generousity (and we hope you all had a great time at the party!)

Seeds of Generosity

Thanks so much to Richard and Sue Vignola of Rancho Vignola, www.ranchovignola.com. In September, they donated over 800 lbs. of beautiful nuts, seeds, and dried fruit as a Thank You to the Airdrie community for the success of sale they hold in Airdrie each year. Then, in December, they sent an additional 600 lbs of nuts, seeds, and dried fruits. This is natural food with no preservatives and a long shelf-life and is ideal for our food hampers. Thanks so much.

The Key to Community Service

Thanks to Airdrie Lock & Key, who recently made the donation of repairing our door. Thanks for being neighbourly and helping out your neighbour, the food bank.

A Latte sharing

Thanks a lot to Costa Cana Imports, for the generous donation of 500 pounds of lovely Costa Rican coffee. Our clients are benefiting from this in their hampers, and we also shared 200 lbs of the coffee with the Lions Club to include in their Christmas hampers.

Community groups contributing their time in "hordes"

Thanks to the Richard Proctor Life Group for voluteering two evenings to help sort incoming food for the Christmas season. You made a huge difference with the help you brought those days.

Thanks to the staff of R.J. Hawkey Elementary School for volunteering their after-school hours to help us intake, sort, and distribute food from recent food drives.

And .... last but not least, thanks to the staff at Bow Valley College for also coming in as a group to sort and redistribute food from recent food drives.

We would be buried under piles of cans, and families would not be receiving food, if group like these didn't take the time to come in to help -- particularly during this time of year.

A "door prize" for the food bank

Airdrie Women Small Business Association donated all of the proceeds of the admission from their annual Winter Fair to the Food Bank. Thanks very much for the donation, and thanks to all who attended their Winter Fair.

Donations from Heaven

Pennies from Heaven recently had a food drive for the Food Bank. Thanks for all your time and effort to help stock our shelves.

"Neighbors Helping Neighbors"

Thanks to all who continue to be "Neighbors Helping Neighbors" dropping donations at the Food Bank, or Local stores. A lot of community members have donated items from their garden harvest, some from grocery purchases, and some from their pantries. We appreciate them all.

A shining example for the community

Thanks to the organizers of the Airdrie Show and Shine who designated a portion of the proceeds from their annual Car Show to the Food Bank.

Helping Hands help us Grow!

Thanks to the Airdrie Agricultural Society for their donation of Garden Plots at the local community Garden. Approximately 2000 lbs of fresh produce was harvested with the help of members of the local 4-H group "Helping Hands".

Thanks, Mr. Mayer

Martin Mayer stopped by to make his annual generous donation to the Food Bank.

Thanks for helping us get in shape!

Richard Chae of Fresh Selects, the Food Kiosk at the Airdrie Recreation Centre has kept a jar of change donations going since he opened. When he donated it to us in July 2007, the jar contained over $450.00 in coins and was almost too heavy to lift! Thanks, Richard! What a nice surprise!

Credit where Credit is due

Farm Credit Canada (Calgary Office) gave a donation and sent 3 volunteers to sort food for an afternoon. Thanks!

Corporate Citizens contribute to community

RBC Financial Group (Marlene Throop) and CIR Realty (Barbara Creighton and Karen Maniaci) did a food drive for us. Thanks, ladies!

The writing's not on the wall!

These youth were adding value to our community! Airdrie Alliance Youth Food Drive collected over 200 bags of food in their area. Thanks, guys and gals!

The Kee to building a better community ...

Thanks to McKee Homes for their ongoing annual support. ($5000.00 a year for 5 years).

Smitty's Helpers

Thanksgiving Dinner was free at Smitty's Airdrie. About 150 people were fed. Over $1000.00 was donated and more than 100 bags of food. What a great event that was attended by families, seniors and others without family to be with on this holiday.. Smitty's provided volunteers, a church from Calgary Tapestry and folks from Canadian Baptist Seminary gave their time as well as volunteers from the Food Bank. This will be an annual event. The waitresses even donated their tips from the day to the Food Bank. Thanks to Smitty's for sponsoring the event, and thanks to the following staff and volunteers for making it a big success!

As the food bank has limited capacity for providing fresh meat and fruit to our clients, nuts and seeds are an excellent meat substitute and dried fruit is a healthy and handy item for our clients. Thank you for your generous donation.

The next Rancho Vignola Airdrie sale will be:

November 23th - 9am to 7pm
November 24th - 9am to 5pm

at the Town and Country Centre
(275 Jensen Drive)

Thanks to ...

Hood Packaging, who donated $600.00 to us to buy a warehouse ladder and we have bought the ladder. The ladder was much-needed to help us reach high shelves in the warehouse safely.

Dad's favorite foods!

Pam Gill, who owns Laser Touch Beauty Solutions in Airdrie and Calgary, has been donating produce on a weekly basis. She was in again today August 15 with 40 lbs of apples, milk and cereal, a donation of her father's favorite foods, in memory of her Dad who passed away 1 year ago today. Thanks, Pam! What a great way to remember Dad!

Thanks to George MacDougal Alumni!

Thanks to George MacDougal High School Reunion Committee for raising funds for us at their recent reunion.

How many beautiful classic cars does it take to bring in 50 bags of donated items?

Thanks to the organizers of the Airdrie Summer Classic Car show held at Nose Creek Park the weekend of Aug. 11 and 12. Their request for a non perishable Food Bank item for admittance to their event brought in over 50 bags of donated items. Thanks so much for helping to restock our shelves.

Vitreous Capital donation

We recently received a very generous donation from Pat Cachion of Vitreous Capital Inc. Vitreous has been a very generous, regular contributor to the Airdrie Food Bank. We appreciate both the generosity and the regular nature of his donations. Regular donations make it possible for us to budget for ongoing expenses, and are an important part of the stability of the Airdrie Food Bank.

Thanks to Telus and their employees

The Food Bank received a cheque for over $3000 from Telus from their "Dollars for Dollars 2006" program during July. Employees have the option to elect to donate proceeds to a charity through payroll deduction. Over $1500 was donated by Telus Employees and was matched by Telus and the proceeds forwarded to us. What a pleasant and generous surprise! Thanks so much to Telus for making this program available, and to their employees who generously donated.

Stampede Breakfast

On June 23, Goldworks and Cowboy Up Western Style (both in the Towerlane Mall) sponsored a Stampede Breakfast. Ham and pancakes were served to several hundred hungry Airdrie residents and visitors. Donations of $2 per person were collected and the proceeds were generously donated by Goldworks and Cowboy Up Western Style to the Food Bank.

Big Chill Challenge

Our Big Chill Challenge was a huge success. This campaign to raise funds for walk-in refrigeration coolers was sponsored by Goldworks Jewelry, and Airdrie Travelmasters (both from Towerlane Mall) and The Airdrie Echo. Wow! What a time we had!!

Many Thanks to Gabrielle Loughman and MaxWell Westview Realty

On March 17, Maxwell Westview Realty sponsored a Dinner, Dance, and Silent and Live Auction at the Diamond room of the Best Western Hotel.

Dinner included a 4 course meal and a dance with entertainment by Southern Moon. The event featured a "Green" theme since it was held on St. Patrick's Day.

Our hostess , Gabrielle A. Loughman from Maxwell Westview Realty, put a lot of work into creating a great event, and arranged for the donation of over 150 items that were auctioned during the evening, with the proceeds to benefit the Airdrie Food Bank. Thank you so much to Gabrielle, all of the organizations that donated, and all the generous bidders who made the evening a great success.
